We are in the coldest time of the year, which inevitably means ice and road salt on the paths. This puts more strain on our dogs' paws than ever before.

A natural balm that protects the skin from drying out is a great help here. We made an effective paw balm for our dogs using simple ingredients and would like to share the recipe with you here.

Marigolds and chamomile flowers can have an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. The moisturizing, antibacterial coconut oil rounds off the recipe perfectly.

FOR THE PAW BALM YOU NEED:

  • 200 ml coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried marigold petals (available in health food stores or pharmacies)
  • 1 tablespoon chamomile flowers (available in health food stores)

THE PRODUCTION IS VERY SIMPLE:

Heat the coconut oil in a water bath until it is liquid. Add the flowers and mix everything well. Pour the mixture into a small resealable jar and then allow the coconut oil to solidify again. This usually takes a few hours.

HOW TO USE IT:

Regularly massage a small amount of the balm into your dog's paws, e.g. before or after a walk. But please do not use it if the paws have wounds, as the balm should be used preventively.

Have fun trying it out and have a wonderful time!
