Soy for dogs: What you should know
Basically, dogs can eat soy as long as they do not suffer from a soy allergy or intolerance. If this is not the case, you still have to be careful in what form you feed it. Cooked soybeans and unseasoned soy products such as tofu, soy milk and soy yogurt are usually well tolerated.
However, fresh, raw and uncooked soybeans are not suitable as food, as they are indigestible for your furry friend, as well as for us humans. Dried soybeans are also not well tolerated. Special care is also required with soy sauce. This should definitely not end up in your four-legged friend's bowl, as it is far too salty and can be harmful to the cardio-vascular system.
Everything you need to know about the tolerability of the protein-rich bean
A study published in 2016 identified the main allergens in dogs. 6% of the four-legged friends showed an allergic reaction to soy. Such a food allergy can be recognized by various symptoms. These include itching, paw licking, skin problems and ear infections. Gastrointestinal complaints such as diarrhea, vomiting and flatulence can also indicate an allergy in dogs. If you notice such symptoms in your pet, you should definitely see a veterinarian.
The Role of Soy in Dog Food
We can conclude that soy has the potential to cause allergic reactions in some dogs. So why is there dog food with soy? Quite simply - because soy, compared to animal proteins, causes allergies or intolerances much less often. Therefore, it is preferably used in vegan dog food to cover your four-legged friend's protein needs. In addition, the protein quality of soy is even comparable to that of meat. However, the soybean is not only a plant-based source of protein, it also contains many important nutrients.
Why we at VEGDOG produce dog food without soy
We at VEGDOG want our dog food to be suitable for as many furry friends as possible. That's why we have developed a hypoallergenic recipe that avoids the main dog allergens. Our vegan dog food therefore contains neither animal proteins nor soy. You won't find any artificial attractants or colorings in our food either.
It is important to us that your four-legged friend still receives all the important nutrients. That is why we have worked with veterinarians to develop a complete food for dogs that meets 100% of their needs. To meet your dog's protein needs, we use potato protein, pea protein, whole peas, lentils and lupins, for example.

FAQ
Soy can be a plant-based protein source in dog food. However, not all four-legged friends can tolerate the protein-rich bean. Therefore, it is very individual whether soy is a good choice for your dog or whether you should avoid it.
Some dogs tolerate soy well, while others have allergic reactions or intolerances. Therefore, it is important to consider the dog's individual needs and reactions and, if necessary, choose a soy-free dog food.
Soya as a feed is not problematic. It depends on the form in which it is fed. Soya in the wrong form, e.g. raw, can trigger allergies and intolerances in dogs.
